Fort Clatsop National Memorial, Clatsop County, Oregon, U.S.A. Looking in through the main gate of Fort Clatsop. The expedition of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark began to build a fort about 3 miles up Netul River (Lewis and Clark River) on December 8 1805. They named the fort for the friendly local tribe.
